Nick Bryan - U23 World Championships

Nick Bryan (MAGSROW alumnus) was in Germany at the U23 World Champs racing in the NZ Men’s 8+ that came away with BRONZE! This makes two years running that Nick has medalled in this boat at U23s! Since returning from Germany, Nick has been out with some of the MAGS crews connecting with the next generation before heading back to Syracuse University for his Junior year. Here’s a note from Nick about the campaign.

I had the privilege of being able to row for the NZ U23 team and compete at the U23 world Championships in Duisburg, Germany. The campaign was heaps of fun thanks to the group of people selected, as we all shared the same common goal and were really driven to see it through.

The traveling side of this campaign was pretty cool because we got to leave the NZ winter early and head over to Hazewinkel in Belgium for a 10 day training camp before we made our way to Duisburg. This definitely helped the team acclimate to the heat but also reminded us what we were here for. It started to make things feel real for the group.

The regatta itself was a great experience for our young group, and we managed to step on through the days with lots of confidence and a relaxed feeling that we could do what we wanted to achieve. Being able to end up with a medal with a crew that only has one athlete ageing out [ineligible to race U23 next year] was pretty awesome. Overall, this U23 group was a real good time with a great bunch of people, and I’m excited to hopefully trial again with these guys next year.
