This time last year (June 2020) we ran this story highlighting Charlotte Buck’s experience as an overseas club athlete rowing at West End. While she didn’t know it at the time, the North Island and NZ National Championships racing was a major stepping stone for her to rowing on the world stage as she made it to the finals of a global erg championship during the pandemic. Following her performance making the finals in the erg competition, she caught the attention of the US National Team coaches and Charlotte was invited to join the USA women’s training centre after the Olympic games were postponed for one year. West End is pleased to announce that after a year of preparation and selection, Charlotte has officially made the USA Olympic Women’s 8+!
“I am so honored and proud to get this chance to compete on the Olympic stage. The road wasn’t what I had imagined, but I just tried to take every opportunity that is given to me. You just keep trying to prove you can be a little faster each day and you can’t take anything for granted.” ~Charlotte Buck, 2021 USA Olympic Women’s 8+
The heats for the Olympic Women’s 8+ are scheduled to kick off on July 25th in Tokyo, Japan. This will be Charlotte’s first senior team international competition.
